Job description

Job Description
We offer a competitive salary for this role, with an expected range of $92,000 - $116,700/yr. The final offer will depend on your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. General Dynamics - Bath Iron Works also provides a variety of benefits including medical & dental insurance coverage, 401(k) retirement savings plan, flexible spending accounts/HSAs, life and disability insurance, company paid holidays, paid time off (PTO), health coaching, athletic trainers, employee assistance programs and onsite health services.
The Area Supervisor is responsible for supporting the Assembly Building and Panel Line's operations across assigned areas. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), this position ensures safe, high-quality, and efficient execution of trade work to support ship/unit construction schedules. This role provides technical and resource management and plays a key role in coaching and mentoring Front Line Supervisors to strengthen trade performance and team effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Leadership:
  • Ensure a safe, clean, working environment is maintained at all times during the construction process.

Project Execution:
  • Coordinate work of multiple supervisors and support functions.
  • Ensure the final product is built to all QA requirements and inspection procedures with proper documentation.

Operations Management:
  • Responsible for Cost Performance, Plan of Week Development and Execution.
  • Coordinate and/or facilitate the resolution of any barriers, either production or pre-production that could impede the achievement of scheduled events.

Training and Development:
  • Mentor Front Line Supervisors by developing their technical knowledge, leadership skills, and ability to execute daily objectives.
  • Promote continuous learning and skills development for both supervisors and mechanics.

Team Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with Production Control to establish and sequence work orders in MACPAC for the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Work to maintain a high level of credibility with customers.
  • Work in accordance with all Union agreements and promote teamwork.

Continuous Improvement:
  • Work to identify, develop, and implement cost reduction initiatives.
  • Be proactive in the Process Improvement Initiatives Program.

Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Graduate of BIW's Apprenticeship Program or other related education preferred.

Required/Preferred Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years production/shipyard experience required.
  • Solid understanding of shipbuilding processes and MACPAC system.
  • Solid understanding of union agreement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple priorities.
  • Understanding of labor cost reporting.
