Laborer Cutter information

What is a laborer cutter?

Laborer cutters are workers who use hand tools or power equipment to cut, trim, or remove excess material from manufactured products. They often work in industries such as textiles, food processing, or manufacturing, where they may cut fabric, meat, plastic, or metal items according to specifications. Their job requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and adherence to safety procedures. Laborer cutters play a crucial role in ensuring finished products meet quality and size requirements.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a laborer cutter?

To thrive as a Laborer Cutter, you need manual dexterity, attention to detail, physical stamina, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with cutting tools, machinery, and safety protocols, as well as experience with equipment like shears and saws, is typically required. These competencies are essential for maintaining workplace safety, ensuring product quality, and meeting production targets in manufacturing environments.

Job Function Statements – Essential Functions:

A General Labor worker is expected to perform the following essential job functions (detailed):

  • Use a knife or peeler to trim, cut, or peel product.
  • Moving arms forward in a "throwing motion" or pushing mixed vegetables into product and mixing it together while bent over.
  • Handling product that may have a temperature of 32-36 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Pack finished bags into boxes in a timely manner so as not to hold-up the pace of the packaging machine. (Machine speeds range from 30-120 bags per minute). This requires moving arms back and forth in a forward motion. The incumbent will then take the bags off the line (pulling towards the body) and place them downward into the box.
  • Lift bags of finished product (up to 35 lbs.) during the duration of the shift.
  • Make boxes by lifting the corrugated strips and folding them into a box.
  • Responsible for counting and keeping track of product dumped into the hoppers.
  • Safely operate hoists, dryers, and dumping machines.
  • Transferring filled baskets of product in and out of dryers.
  • Push the finished goods through the tape machine. Applying gentle force to a box from left to right or right to left so that the tape machine can process the box.
  • Load finished boxes onto the pallets, stacking the boxes from floor level to above head level. This requires using the whole body: bending at waist, bending at legs/knees while carrying the box and moving arms overhead to place it at the top of the pallet. This requires a lifting ability of 1-35 lbs. and stacking boxes up to 80" high.
  • Perform other duties (such as basic housekeeping) as assigned.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position
