Responsibilities
The Executive Director of Laboratory Services serves as the second-in-command to the Vice President of Laboratory Services, providing enterprise-wide oversight, strategic direction, and leadership across clinical laboratory operations. This role functions as the primary operational extension of the VP, ensuring alignment between system strategy and execution across all laboratory service lines.
The Executive Director provides high-level oversight of laboratory operations, financial performance, and regulatory compliance, while direct accountability for execution resides with Corporate Laboratory Directors. This position is responsible for ensuring consistency, standardization, and integration of laboratory services across the health system, with a strong focus on quality, patient safety, and regulatory excellence. The Executive Director fosters a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and system-wide alignment to achieve clinical and business objectives.
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field, required.
  2. Master's degree in healthcare administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), preferred.
  3. MLS (ASCP), CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist license) or equivalent licensure / certification required.
  4. Minimum of 8 -15+ years of progressive clinical laboratory experience
  5. At least 5 years of supervisory or senior management experience in a clinical laboratory setting
  6. Experience in regulatory compliance, including CLIA, CAP, TJC, ACHC, and other regulatory / accreditation bodies.
  7. Proven track record in budget management, staffing oversight, and operational improvement initiatives.

Preferred qualifications:
  1. Exceptional communication skills / professional presence with ability to lead and drive change on a national scale.
  2. Experience in integrated health system
  3. Lean Sigma or process improvement certification
  4. Experience implementing or managing laboratory automation system and/or Core/Reference Lab
  5. Strong background in healthcare finance or business operations
  6. Experience in hospital/lab acquisitions

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $132,932.80.00 to $226,345.60 on an annualized basis. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
