Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Supervisor, Laboratory  The Supervisor, Laboratory provides frontline leadership to Laboratory Technicians  and ensures the accurate and timely testing of materials, waste streams and emissions in compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations. This role will work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Compliance teams to support efficient plant operations. 

  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
  • Provides frontline leadership to Laboratory Technicians to support daily laboratory activities including sample collection, testing and analysis of waste streams byproducts and emissions
  • Ensures adequate training of all personnel within the Laboratory function
  • Oversees the proper calibration, maintenance and condition of all laboratory equipment
  • Implements and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory testing in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Ensures the timely reporting of test results to stakeholders, including Operations, Compliance, and leadership
  • Conducts regular audits of laboratory practices to ensure compliance with hazardous material handling protocols
  • Coordinates with Compliance and Environmental Health and Safety teams to ensure compliance with all Federal, State and Local regulations (EPA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Manges the chemical inventory and ensures the safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials within the laboratory
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive quality assurance program to monitor the incineration process
  • Analyzes test results to detect deviations or anomalies that could affect plant safety or environmental compliance
  • Provides recommendations for process improvements or corrective actions based on laboratory data
  • Assists in the investigation and resolution of non-conformance issues related to waste input, emissions or byproducts
  • Maintains accurate and organized records of all laboratory analyses and test results; prepares regular reports on waste characterization, emissions and compliance for leadership and regulatory agencies
  • Stays updated on changes to environmental and safety regulations, ensuring the laboratory's practices remain compliant
  • Leads projects aimed at optimizing waste analysis methods, enhancing data management systems and updating laboratory equipment
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Education - Bachelors degree in chemistry, environmental science, chemical engineering or related field (required) - Certification in hazardous materials handling or safety management (preferred)Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory management role (required); within a high-hazard or chemical processing environment (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of an experience working with hazardous materials, waste testing, emissions analysis and environmental regulations and safety standards including EPA, OSHA, etc. (required)
  • Experience in quality control, data analysis, process improvement and laboratory management systems and data reporting software (required)
  • Knowledge of and experience working with advanced analytical techniques for emissions testing including gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (preferred)
