Under broad supervision, performs routine analysis on lab samples. Conducts a full range of sample preparation. Performs routine to complex laboratory tests on samples. Operates and assists in maintaining lab equipment. Some positions may perform EKG's.
All District 4 Public Health, County BOH employees are deemed essential employees in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event not limited to but including, staffing a shelter, a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or Point of Dispensing site (POD). When you are called on to participate, you are expected and it will be a part of your job requirement to participate, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
Job Responsibilities
  • Provides quality customer service to all customers.
  • May serve as the clinic CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) manager.
  • Leads all laboratory procedures and represents Fayette County Health Department at CLIA meetings.
  • Submits monthly clinical supply order to CNM or designee.
  • Completes thorough triage of patients (vital signs, blood work, urinalysis).
  • Assists nurses and physician as needed.
  • Performs hearing, vision, and dental screenings.
  • Prepares lab specimens for daily transit.
  • Completes quarterly clinic reports and submits to District Office ahead of deadline.
  • Precepts Phlebotomy Students annually.
  • Performs timely entry of state and private lab orders and results.
  • Maintains daily temperature log sheet for specimen refrigerator.
  • Performs control testing and maintains control log sheet for lab equipment and supplies.
  • Sterilizes all equipment.
  • Maintains a safe and clean lab.
  • Ordering and maintaining clinical supplies from several vendors.
  • Participates in necessary Emergency Preparedness, as directed by manager.

Minimum Qualifications
Laboratory Technician 3:
High school diploma or GED AND Two years of experience in a laboratory setting or a related area OR One year of experience required at the lower level Laboratory Tech 2 (LST031) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require licensure.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must have a Phlebotomy Certificate or a Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English language)
  • Public Health experience
