Laboratory Technician – Coatings & Materials Testing

Adecco Healthcare & Life Sciences is hiring for a leading global manufacturer known for developing innovative coatings, adhesives, and specialty materials in Irvine, CA.

Location: Irvine, CA
Pay: $28–$32/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Standard business hours
Assignment: Contract Opportunity
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite

Position Overview

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support hands-on laboratory testing and technical projects involving coatings, paints, cleaners, pretreatments, and coated substrates.

This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable operating laboratory equipment, performing routine testing, following established procedures, accurately documenting results, and working closely with Chemists and Application Engineers.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, safety-conscious, organized, and a strong team player with a willingness to learn and take initiative.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine laboratory testing using standard test methods and established experimental protocols.

  • Conduct hands-on testing and evaluation of coatings and coated substrates to assess performance characteristics.

  • Support Application Engineers and Chemists with laboratory testing and data generation.

  • Prepare cleaners, pretreatments, paints, coatings, and related formulations from chemical ingredients according to established procedures.

  • Operate laboratory equipment and instrumentation safely and effectively.

  • Collect, record, organize, and summarize experimental data and test results.

  • Maintain laboratory notebooks and accurately document experimental procedures, observations, and results.

  • Prepare charts, tables, and basic data summaries using Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.

  • Follow established protocols to ensure data accuracy, traceability, and reproducibility.

  • Maintain an organized laboratory environment and follow 5S principles.

  • Follow all laboratory safety procedures and established chemical handling protocols.

  • Work with initiative and increasing independence under the guidance of Senior Technicians and Chemists.

  • Collaborate effectively with Engineers, Chemists, Technicians, and other members of the technical team.

Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or another technical/scientific field.

  • 1–3 years of hands-on laboratory experience preferred.

  • Comfortable operating laboratory equipment and performing hands-on testing.

  • Experience with coatings, paints, chemicals, materials testing, or related laboratory work is a plus.

  • Ability to understand and accurately follow experimental protocols and standard test methods.

  • Strong attention to detail when collecting, recording, and summarizing laboratory data.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to create and interpret basic charts, tables, and data summaries.

  • Familiarity with 5S, laboratory organization, and safe laboratory practices.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work independently while following direction from senior technical staff.

  • Ability to remain standing and active in the laboratory for most of the workday.
