POSITION SUMMARY: The Lab/ QC Technician is responsible for supporting the plant quality program and operation of the laboratory. Responsible for daily laboratory activities, laboratory support, and entering information into the Quality Management System. This individual will work closely with the site operations team and the sales team to help solve problems and provide expected value to the customer.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

Quality Control Testing

  • Perform daily testing requirements.
  • Accurately sample and measure chemical and physical properties on all types of raw and finished products, environmental systems, and fuels following established laboratory guidelines.
  • Effectively interpret and communicate analysis results within the context of the production facilities to maintain product quality.

Inventory

  • All supplies required for testing
  • All supplies required for sample shipments
  • Retain samples

Quality System

  • Implement all elements of the quality manual
  • Maintain the validity of all documentation affecting the positions listed above
  • Maintain the validity of all procedures affecting the positions listed above

Safety

  • Maintain chemical solutions, laboratory instruments, perform standardization or calibrations, and a clean work environment.
  • Collect and dump materials into designated equipment units accurately and efficiently.
  • Responsible for minor repairs on laboratory equipment and preventative maintenance.
  • Attend all safety meetings as required
  • Ensure the quality system aligns with safety policies and programs

Training

  • Provide on-the-job training, as assigned
  • Verify on-the-job training, as assigned
  • Support corporate level development of quality and quality data systems
  • Provide training in approved quality and quality data systems
  • Educate team members about plant quality control, assurance, awareness, and auditing.
  • Ensure test methods and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated.

Recordkeeping and compliance

  • Ensure federal, state, and local agency compliance standards.
  • Maintain and support DMS structure and CRM data in compliance with the quality system
  • Compile non-conformance data, including customer complaints in order to provide specific and global recommendations.
  • Assess product specifications of company and its suppliers, and compare with the requirements of our customers

Perform other duties as assigned.

ATTRIBUTES:

  • Must be capable of working any shift, on-call, overtime, or seven days a week, if needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to enter and retrieve data from MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperature, noise and dust.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.
  • Will be working in both an office environment and in a mineral processing environment.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Associates Degree in chemistry, biology or Engineering or demonstrated skills and ability and/or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

  • BA/BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physical Science, Chemical Engineering and/or related field.

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 1- 3 years of related experience through intern, co-op or actual work experience in mining, manufacturing or laboratory environment..

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-4 years of proven laboratory experience in mining, manufacturing or laboratory environment.
