Job description


Position Summary
Performs blood specimen collection, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; will perform CLIA waived laboratory tests, as requested. Will process anatomic pathology and cytology specimens; assists pathologists and histotechs, as needed. Will supervise or lead lab assistant I and II positions, as requested.
Responsibilities
  • Completes prioritization, receipt, registration and distribution of specimens.
  • Has responsibility for sendout/reference lab shipping, tracking and billing.
  • Will perform waived testing, as requested.
  • Will assist with processing of anatomic pathology specimens including preparation of microscopic tissue slides, staining and specimen management, as requested.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Requirements
    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Experience: 3 years of laboratory experience.
    • LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION : Phlebotomy Certification where state law requires.
  • Preferred Requirements
    • Education: Associates degree in laboratory or medical related field from an accredited institution preferred.
    • Experience: Basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience preferred.
    • LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION : Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred.
