Job Description
The Laboratory Supervisor's primary responsibilities are to manage growth pathways for department personnel through goals and evaluations, identify and provide the necessary resources for the department, set and evaluate department expectation criteria for all tasks, facilitate department improvements through monitoring of KPIs, oversees the daily production of the department, ensuring all training is complete and all quality management systems are consistently compliant. The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for following all health and safety procedures and promoting a safe working environment throughout the department and company.
  • Ensures quality and effectiveness of in-house training programs, identifies external training opportunities/needs, facilitates personnel growth pathway for department; developing training and goals, ensuring resources to achieve those goals.
  • Performance management of all direct reports - weekly/bi-weekly meetings, development and follow-through on group and individual goals, provides meaningful recognition, provides performance feedback on an ongoing basis, soliciting input/ideas and feedback from direct reports consistently and taking action, as needed.
  • Manages the resources of the department, ensuring adequate supplies, space, equipment, instrumentation, training and staff to meet the department and company goals; performing assessments to support investment.
  • Facilitates change through continuous improvement, helps implement best practices to maximize operational efficiency and maintain data quality the meets of exceeds industry standards.
  • Manages error reduction, through trend monitoring and continuous improvement.
  • Oversees the daily production of the department and sets clear expectations and goals for each task, maximizing throughput and ensuring targets are met.
  • Ensures all Quality Management System requirements are completed on time, keeping department compliant at all times
  • Ensures staffing levels are appropriate for sample volumes and that staff are properly trained to perform their assigned duties.
  • Adheres to all policies and SGS SOPs.
  • Demonstrates good leadership through effective planning, delegating and empowering subordinates appropriately, and leading by example. Manages people and performance daily, acting quickly and decisively when required.
  • Coordinates with team to actively manage daily workflow through the department to ensure highest quality results and turnaround times are met consistently.
  • Provides technical support to marketing, sales, customer service and clients regarding testing, reporting or technical inquiries.
  • Actively promotes strong culture of quality and safety, ensuring all team members follow policies consistently.
  • Keeps management informed of any potential issues.
  • Provides exceptional customer service, both internal and external clients.
  • Lead investigations and root cause analysis with support of coordinators and lab personnel following unplanned events (safety or operational incidents, near misses, customer claims).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Science, with emphasis in chemistry or other related field. (Required)
  • Must have 3-5 years in a management and/or supervisory role. (Required)

OR
  • Associate's Degree in Chemistry or similar scientific discipline and minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories (sample analysis).
