This position is for vacancies in Williamsburg.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant I is dedicated to offering exceptional patient care; facilitates the efficient flow of the patient office visit experience while maintaining high quality and compassionate care.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform patient intake to include medical history with accurate documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Patient triage to include vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, and weight).
  • Perform phlebotomy and ancillary clinical kit testing and specimen collection.
  • Administering immunizations and variety of injections.
  • Maintain temperature logs, QA processes, OSHA policies.
  • Ensure accurate performance of EKG’s.
  • Assisting physician with gynecologic, surgical, and wound procedures/exams.
  • Completing pharmaceutical prior authorizations.
  • Phone triage to include communication with pharmacies for patient medication refills.
  • Performing Medicare Annual Wellness Visits.
  • Exam room set up/ cleaning/stocking
  • Electronic input of patient lab/radiology orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine laboratory tests.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to operate, clean and sterilize.
  • Knowledge of appropriate medical terminology to communicate with medical and laboratory staff.
  • Skill in operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
  • Skill in proper reporting of laboratory tests.
  • Skill in communicating clearly with diverse publics.
  • Skill in appropriately billing orders collected.
  • Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.
  • Ability to work in multiple computer systems effectively.
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols.
  • Ability to work independently.
 

Education / Training / Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED; no experience required.
  • Medical Assisting Diploma and/or Certificate of Completion required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification (CMA, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA, or RMA) preferred.
  • Current CPR or BLS certificate.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for limited periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to climb or balance for limited periods of time.
  • Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *
