Salary range: $58,566.95 -$62,129.60 (Placement within the range is typically based upon a review of skills, experience, and internal equity)  
Hours per week: 36.25hrs

We are currently accepting applications for a motivated Ed Lab Technician to join the School of Transportation.

Reporting to the Academic Chair(s), the Ed-Tech is accountable for promoting a positive and interactive learning environment with hands-on learning. You will support faculty by maintaining & repairing operational equipment, demonstration equipment, instrumentation, analytical equipment and other mechanical components related to the heavy duty and autobody trade. Monitor & maintain inventory levels for equipment and lab consumables.

Monitor & maintain hand tools, power tools and tool boards. Maintain inventory of all tooling.

The Role
  • Control & maintain all inventory used in the labs. Stocking consumables and preparing and stocking associated materials.
  • Processing (cutting & shearing), metal coupons for labs.
  • Perform maintenance & repairs to operational and non-operational equipment to OEM standards such as welding equipment, diesel engines, and transmissions
  • Prepare and maintain demonstration equipment for the instructors in the labs. Provide technical support to the sections
  • Research equipment specifications for proper repair schedules and procedures
  • Monitor & maintain hand tools, power tools and tool boards and maintain inventory of all tooling.
  • Adhere to safety legislation, guidelines, and safety standards as required by government agencies or regulators, and those communicated by management and supervisors.
  • Follow all SAIT general Health & Safety regulations, rules, codes of practice, standard operating procedures in the HSME Manual.
  • Fabricating training aids and stands for demonstration units as approved
  • Organizing, coordinate and set up lab environments for instructors as requested
  • Supervise the work of others on maintenance projects, if required supervise third party contract workers for short term tasks
  • Communicate and document general objectives and goals and work assignments to your team
  • Other duties as assigned including the approved use of SAIT vehicles for business purposes providing that the pre-requisite documentation has been approved
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum High School Diploma
  • Strong communication, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management
  • Fluent in English
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to supervise others
  • Class 5 license - abstract required
  • Must be able to safely lift 20 kilograms, extended walking, bending, etc.
  • Must be willing to be trained in the following; SAIT COR Safety program, First Aid (Emergency), WHMIS and any section specific training.
  • Preference given to Journeyman RV Technician. Journeyperson certification in an applicable trade is preferred. (ie. Welding, Heavy Equipment, Millwright, automotive)
  • Ability to adapt to situations such as unexpected workloads.
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Additional Details

Work Authorization:  Projects will begin and continue only with the express approval of the Academic Chair due to the specific time, materials and cost involved.  Substantive changes to the scope or duration of a project will be communicated to the Academic Chair and re-approved.

Ordering parts: Parts will only be ordered through approved SAIT employee purchasers with that designated role.  At no time will the acquisition or disposal of materials or services be agreed to without the approval of the Academic Chair.
