Job description

The Laboratory Assistant-Certified is responsible for assisting the Laboratory Scientist in the operation of the Clinical Laboratory. The Laboratory Assistant will perform phlebotomy procedures and under the supervision of a Laboratory Scientist will also perform certain non-technical aspects of patient testing, including specimen processing and laboratory informatics activities. The Laboratory Assistant is also responsible for maintaining a well-stocked, clean and orderly laboratory environment which contributes to the smooth operation of the laboratory and safe, quality patient care.

What You'll Do:

  • Perform all aspects of venipuncture including heel-stick and finger-stick.
  • Utilizes proper aseptic technique when performing patient care procedures.
  • Chooses the specimen of choice through knowledge, request, or research for particular test requests.ย 
  • Appropriately handles all aspects of specimen collection, labeling and processing.
  • Performs correct procedures for all laboratory paperwork including patient requisitions, reference laboratory requisitions, documentation of special circumstances, review of billing demographics, daily check off lists, temperature monitoring, preparing monthly records, and annual reports.

What You'll Need:

  • CPT-1 or CPT-2 required.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • High school diploma required.
  • One year experience as a Phlebotomist preferred.
