Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT)

A Brief Overview
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT) performs chemical, histochemical, or morphological analysis on specimens using laboratory instrumentation and microscopes using company approved policies and procedures. The MT ensures quality of results and determines validity of reportable results. The Medical Laboratory Scientist acts as a resource person for physicians in laboratory testing.
What you will do
  • Collect, process, and handle blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures; instructs patients in the proper collection of samples
  • Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid; performs blood counts using microscope
  • Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes; may draw blood from patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein observing principles of sepsis to obtain blood samples
  • Develop and maintains cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniques
  • Perform quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy
  • Perform calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy
  • Keep records and reports on results according to established procedures

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science or a related field Required or
  • Equivalent combination of post-secondary education and work experience (including comparable military training) in the field of Medical Laboratory Science. Required to meet all personnel requirements for testing personnel under CLIA 88' Required
  • Certificate as a laboratory professional by ASCP, AMT, NCA or HEW Required

Experience Qualifications
  • One year experience in a clinical setting, preferably hospital-based laboratory Preferred
