Job Description

The laboratory assistant aids in sample handling, sample preparation, and sample archiving under the guidance of a laboratory technician or laboratory coordinator. would strongly prefer a candidate with an associate's degree Responsibilities: The major duties will include but not limited to:

Performs sample preparation activities including DNA extraction and data entry.

Flexibility to function in several lab functional areas such as Sample Archiving, Pre-Amplification (DNA extraction and sample prep) and Post-Amplification (Sample processing and detection)

Able to recognize lab work flow issues and adapt processes and procedures to ensure rapid turnaround of sample extractions and analysis.

With guidance, assists with investigations into questionable or out-of-specification laboratory data.

Assists in coaching or training less skilled or new laboratory personnel.

Contributes ideas and participates in initiatives that will lead to continuous improvement of laboratory testing procedures (efficiency and/or quality)

Able to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Follows safety and operational SOPs as required. 

Assists with SOP revision and creation.

Maintaining laboratory organization, inventories, and equipment. Maintaining clean shared work space. Ability to work as part of a diverse and dynamic team 

Qualifications

Associates degree, bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience in a high-throughput laboratory preferred.

Proficient in pipette usage, centrifuge usage, sample handling, DNA extraction, and processing a variety of sample types.

Familiarity with laboratory, safety, and sample handling procedures preferred.

Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and LIMS Applications.

1-3 years of experience in LIMS

Strong communication skills, time management skills, team orientation, and work ethic.

Must be detail oriented and accurate.
