What is Labor Ready?

Labor Ready is a staffing agency that specializes in providing temporary and short-term labor for a variety of industries, such as construction, manufacturing, and warehousing. They connect job seekers looking for immediate work with employers who need workers on short notice. Workers typically sign up at a local Labor Ready branch, and assignments can range from a single day to several weeks. This service is often used by people who need flexible or quick employment opportunities.

What types of assignments can I expect as a Labor Ready worker, and how do these experiences contribute to my skill development?

As a Labor Ready worker, you may be assigned to a variety of short-term jobs such as construction site assistance, warehouse support, event setup, or general maintenance. These assignments provide hands-on experience in different industries, allowing you to learn new skills, adapt to diverse work environments, and build a strong work ethic. Many workers find that these roles help them identify long-term career interests and can lead to permanent positions with client companies. Working with different teams also enhances your communication and teamwork abilities, which are valuable in any career path.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Labor Ready worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Labor Ready worker, you need physical stamina, reliability, and a willingness to take on a variety of manual labor tasks, typically without strict educational requirements. Familiarity with basic hand tools, power equipment, and adherence to workplace safety procedures are commonly expected. Strong work ethic, punctuality, and the ability to follow instructions help individuals stand out in these often fast-paced and dynamic environments. These skills ensure tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to employer expectations in temporary or short-term job assignments.

Job description

Construction Laborer – Road Construction

Art Walker Construction is looking for motivated laborers ready to build a career in road construction. No previous experience is necessary — team members who show initiative and a strong work ethic get the opportunity to master specialized skills and move up within the company. Promotion from within is standard practice at AWC, making this position a genuine first step toward long-term growth. Laborers here rotate across multiple crews — asphalt paving, sitework, and pipe and utility installation — giving newcomers a well-rounded introduction to the road construction trade.

What You'll Do

  • Support asphalt crews with paving operations such as raking, shoveling, and finish work
  • Assist sitework crews with grading, excavation, and site preparation
  • Help pipe and utility crews install underground storm, sewer, and water lines
  • Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment as needed
  • Keep job sites clean and organized
  • Take direction from foremen and crew leads safely and efficiently
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA standards

Qualifications

What We're Looking For

  • No experience required; prior construction or utility work is a plus
  • Interest in learning asphalt paving, sitework, or underground utilities encouraged
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to lift heavy materials and handle physically demanding work
  • Reliable transportation to the main Citra yard
  • Eager to learn and take on new responsibilities
  • Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Steady, local work
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Paid holidays
  • Direct deposit
  • Employer-matched 401(k)
