Labor Helper information

What does a labor helper do?

A Labor Helper assists skilled workers and tradespeople by performing tasks that require physical labor at construction sites, warehouses, or manufacturing facilities. Their duties often include loading and unloading materials, cleaning work areas, moving equipment, and helping with the setup and breakdown of job sites. Labor Helpers play an essential support role, ensuring that projects run smoothly and efficiently. They may also be responsible for following safety protocols and using basic hand tools as directed by supervisors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a labor helper, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Labor Helper, you need physical stamina, basic knowledge of safety procedures, and the ability to follow instructions, often requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and workplace safety equipment is typically needed on the job. Reliability, teamwork, and a strong work ethic help individuals stand out in this position. These skills ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely, supporting smooth operations on construction sites or in warehouses.

What are some common challenges faced by a labor helper, and how can they be overcome?

Labor Helpers often encounter physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy materials, working in various weather conditions, and maintaining a fast work pace. To overcome these challenges, it's important to use proper lifting techniques, stay hydrated, and take regular breaks to prevent fatigue. Building good communication with team members also helps ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently. Many employers provide on-the-job training to help new Labor Helpers adjust to these demands and develop effective work habits.

This entry-level position is ideal for individuals who want to build a long-term career in the corrosion control and pipeline integrity industry. The CP Helper I assists experienced crew members in safely executing tasks that protect critical energy assets from corrosion.

  • Help perform CP surveys, including Close Interval Surveys (CIS), DCVG, and current testing under supervision.
  • Support field setup and equipment preparation, including testing meters, cables, and data recorders.
  • Collect and record field data accurately on paper forms, tablets, or digital devices.
  • Assist with excavation, wiring, trenching, and backfilling related to CP system installation.
  • Load and unload materials and maintain organized work areas and vehicles.
  • Follow all company safety policies, wear appropriate PPE, and participate in daily safety briefings.
  • Travel frequently to job sites and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CP Technician or Project Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor.
  • Willingness to travel regionally or nationally for field assignments (overnight stays required).
  • Strong attention to detail, team orientation, and desire to learn technical field skills.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in physically demanding environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in pipeline, construction, or utility field work is beneficial but not required.
  • Familiarity with basic hand tools, voltmeters, and field data collection.
  • OSHA 10 or SafeLand certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Interest in progressing toward CP Technician or NACE Level I certification.

Why Join Nexus Integrity

  • Competitive pay and overtime opportunities.
  • Company-provided training and certification pathways (CP Technician, NACE).
  • Opportunities for growth into higher field and technical roles.
  • Strong safety culture and supportive team environment.
