Many techs find that developing strong teamwork skills and maintaining a calm, focused demeanor help them provide the best support for patients and clinical staff alike.

What are Labor Delivery Techs?

Labor Delivery Techs, also known as Labor and Delivery Technicians or Obstetric Technicians, are healthcare professionals who assist nurses and doctors during the labor and delivery process. Their responsibilities include preparing delivery rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment is sterile and ready, assisting with patient care, and helping during deliveries and surgical procedures such as C-sections. They play a critical role in maintaining a safe and efficient environment for both mothers and newborns. In addition to technical tasks, they often provide support and comfort to patients and families during childbirth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Labor Delivery Tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Labor Delivery Tech, you need knowledge of obstetric procedures, patient care techniques, and a high school diploma or relevant certification such as Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or Surgical Technologist credentials. Familiarity with fetal monitoring systems, sterilization protocols, and electronic health record (EHR) systems is typically required. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication help deliver quality care and support to patients and medical staff. These skills and qualifications are essential to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care for mothers and newborns during labor and delivery.
