Unit Details
Unit:Labor & Delivery within a community hospital setting
Approximateratio: 1:1 in active labor when possible; may assist postpartum or mother-babydepending on census and staffing needs.
Job Responsibilities
Providecomprehensive perinatal nursing care to laboring women and newborns throughantepartum, intrapartum, and immediate postpartum periods.
Performongoing maternal and fetal assessments, including fetal heart rate monitoring,contraction pattern evaluation, and maternal vital sign review.
Assistwith vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and obstetric emergencies incollaboration with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesia, and pediatric teams.
Administermedications including oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, and other obstetric agentsaccording to facility policy while monitoring for adverse effects.
Supportbreastfeeding initiation, newborn care, and parental education on postpartumrecovery, newborn safety, and follow-up care.
Documentassessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronicmedical record and participate in unit quality and safety initiatives.
Required Qualifications
ActiveConnecticut Registered Nurse license in good standing
Minimum1-2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience in an acute care setting.
CurrentBLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association; NRP or equivalent may berequired by the facility.
Competencyin fetal heart monitoring interpretation and obstetric emergency response,including hemorrhage and preeclampsia management.
Preferred Qualifications
AWHONNIntermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring preferred
RNC-OBor similar inpatient obstetric nursing certification preferred
