Under general supervision, follows established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines. Responsible for monitoring and identifying basic normal cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmias, and lethal arrhythmias; reporting these findings to the appropriate personnel, and rhythm documentation and labeling per TGH policy. Promotes and maintains patient support including but not limited to: interprets and post rhythm strips and protocol, performs 12 lead EKGs. Maintain and clean portable telemetry monitors between patient use according to manufacturer's guidelines.
Essential Functions
- Accurately interprets changes in rhythms.
- Records rhythm strips as required.
- Demonstrates arrhythmia recognition skills.
- Communicates lethal arrhythmias to nursing staff and documents strips as requested.
- Maintains alarms on at all times with rates set safely to minimize false alarms.
- Identifies individual EKGs with proper patient identifiers.
- Works with the computer system, including Maintains flow through the ER and facilitate transfers, admissions and discharges timely.
- Answers telephone and intercom in a pleasant and professional manner and relays message accurately and quickly.
- Reports any malfunction of monitoring equipment to the Biomedical Technicians, Charge Nurse, and Nursing Director
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Work Experience
- Basic EKG class and demonstration of competency through testing.
