Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse is responsible for implementing and evaluating the delivery of care for patients in the Cardiovascular Lab; correlating the nursing process according to the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act and following Cardiovascular Lab standards and protocol. Prep and recover outpatient and circulate during procedures. Scrub with physicians during procedures.
Schedule: Flexible scheduling, on call weekends, vary, on call for holidays, rotating schedule.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
§ Holds an active Registered Nurse license and is eligible to practice in the state of Kentucky.
§ Current certification BLS, ACLS and PALS.
Minimum Work Experience
§ 1 year experience in Cardiovascular Lab or 2 years' experience in CCU/ICU/ER/Telemetry
Required Skills
§ Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
§ Supervise the care of all patients in the Cardiovascular Lab according to standards of care.
§ Delegate tasks to support staff according to their scope of practice.
§ Record and implement physician orders accurately.
§ Control and accurately record the use of narcotics assigned to the Cardiovascular Lab.
§ Demonstrate ability to start IV's and monitor IV fluids.
§ Summarize patient status by giving a pertinent and concise report.
§ Assist with code blue and resuscitation of patients in competent manner.
§ Participate in the orientation of new staff members.
§ Recover patients post procedure following Cardiovascular Lab protocol for sheath removal.
§ Prepare patients for transport to another facility.
§ Supervise the operation IABP.
§ Ensure all preop lab, EKG, History & Physical and consent are complete prior to procedure.
§ Apply principles of radiation protection during all procedures.
§ Communicate with patients and families pre and post procedure in a professional manner.
§ Clean the Cath Lab area and equipment as required.
§ Scrub and assist physician in conducting invasive cardiovascular procedures.
§ Operate all ancillary equipment used in Cardiovascular Lab.
§ Complete nurses notes, patient protocol sheets and log book.
§ Prepare patient for procedure according to department policy.
§ Record and monitor patient hemodynamic data.
§ Provide transportation of patient to and from Cardiovascular Lab.
§ Attend and contribute to department staff meetings.
Patient Population Served -Adult/Geriatric
§ Demonstrates appropriate airway management and suctioning technique for patient population served.
§ Demonstrates appropriate awareness for suspected abuse/neglect for patient population served and takes measures to report them according to protocol.
§ Identifies and plans for appropriate safety precautions to be taken to prevent injury in the patient population served.
§ Demonstrates competency and knowledge in the proper technique for the administration of medication for the patient population served.
§ Demonstrates knowledge of location and use of emergency equipment and drugs for the patient population served.
§ Provides education to patient/family based on identified learning needs of the patient population served.
