Description
The Limited Radiologic Technologist Student Intern (Rad Tech-Intern) plays a critical role in supporting patient care at Iowa Ortho by assisting with clinical procedures, performing limited diagnostic imaging, and preparing patients under the direction of a physician and/or APP. This role involves a combination of imaging, documentation, education, and patient care duties, including applying DME, casting/splinting, and facilitating in-office procedures. The Rad Tech-Intern collaborates with physicians, APPs & care team to ensure the highest quality of patient care and a positive patient experience.
**This role is part-time and could lead to a fulltime role after passing the boards upon graduation.**
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Patient Support:
  • Room patients; collect history, vitals, and basic intake information.
  • Prepare patients for in-office procedures and injections as directed by a provider.
  • Assist with dressing, transport, transfers, and all activities of daily living.
  • Apply, remove, and educate patients on DME, splints, casts, and dressings.
  • Remove sutures/staples and apply Steri-Strips and bandages as instructed.

Imaging and Technical Tasks:
  • Perform diagnostic X-rays within their Limited Rad Tech licensure.
  • Retrieve and upload imaging (X-rays, CTs, MRIs) into PACS from internal systems or CDs.
  • Maintain equipment and prepare trays and instruments for imaging and procedures.

Administrative and Documentation Duties:
  • Document clinical information accurately in the EMR.
  • Prepare patient charts (chart prep) in accordance with clinic protocols.
  • Schedule and reschedule patient appointments as needed.
  • Assist in collecting specimens per provider orders; complete paperwork and deliver to the lab.
  • Place calls to patients before appointments to obtain necessary information or outside imaging.

Team and Training Support:
  • Assist with special clinical projects or administrative tasks as needed.
  • Adhere to clinic attendance policies and maintain compliance with patient privacy and release of information guidelines

Requirements
  • Must be a current Rad Tech student
  • Valid LMRT/LLT certification; current licensure in good standing.
  • Current BLS Certification.
  • Adult & Child Mandatory Reporter Certifications.
  • Completion of Iowa Ortho-mandated education and training programs.
  • Strong understanding of radiologic technology and orthopedic procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Ability to provide transportation & travel between clinical sites as needed.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and ability to accurately document patient care.
  • Knowledge of safety and infection control procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and responsive in high-pressure situations.
