Job description

As the Lab Technician, you will provide analytical data for raw material, in-process, finished product, and special project samples in a safe and timely manner, which meet agreed upon internal and external customer requirements.  

We are currently seeking qualified candidates for this position. Please note that, at this time, we are only considering applications from local candidates. Relocation assistance is not available for this role. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance to Lawrence, KS to be eligible for consideration. Support ESH Compliance:

  • Attend monthly safety meetings
  • Complete all required training in a timely manner
  • Assess laboratory hazards and communicate to management
  • Clean up lab spills in compliance with lab safety and environmental regulations
  • Perform safety checks as required
  • Dispose of lab samples, raw materials, and lab chemicals in compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Support BBS, food safety and ISO programs
  • Maintain a clean/safe work area
  • Must successfully complete RCRA introductory/orientation training
  • Must successfully complete RCRA annual refresher training
  • Potential RCRA responsibilities
  • Inspect RCRA waste storage areas
  • Safely operate hazardous waste equipment and/or processes
  • Safely package, label, store, load and ship hazardous wastes
  • Ensure that hazardous waste manifest and documentation requirements are met
  • Respond to hazardous waste incidents and notify proper authorities
  • Maintain equipment associated with hazardous waste management
  • Perform job safely, in an environmentally sound manner and in accordance with all cGMP requirements
  • Run daily effluent sample

Provide Analytical Data:

  • Perform laboratory tests according to written procedures
  • Participate in Test Capability Index (TCI) and other statistical studies
  • Record analytical results for Work in Progress (WIP) samples and final batch determination results in appropriate data management systems
  • Control work time and prioritize responsibilities to minimize overtime
  • Provide analytical support for the plant's environmental program
  • Understand and follow applicable quality& food safety system procedures
  • Respond to switchboard and gate entrance as needed
  • Retain file samples per laboratory requirements
  • Document analytical results in hard copy records and SAP
  • Approve analysis (as appropriate) in SAP
  • Prepare solutions as assigned
  • Run control samples as assigned
Communicate to Internal and External Customers:
  • Communicate results to production via PI
  • Communicate results to production via email as required
  • Communicate results to production/management via telephone as necessary
  • Communicate out-of-spec results to management via Quality Exceptions
  • Prepare certificate of analysis (C of A) as required
  • Prepare customer product samples on bulk shipments as required
  • Assist Research, MTS, and plant personnel as necessary
  • Participate in customer/supplier visits/audits as necessary

Act as Incident Commander on Off-Shift:

  • Respond to plant emergencies (does not apply to contract analysts)
  • Contact necessary plant management and governmental agencies as required
  • Provide initial first aid treatment to employee injuries
  • Determine extent of injuries and ensure proper outside medical treatment as needed
  • Document all injuries and incidents
  • Communicate all injuries and incidents to appropriate plant personnel
  • The Shift Laboratory Analysts are members of the plant emergency brigade

Miscellaneous Duties:

  • Assist in development of laboratory methods
  • Assist in training of lab personnel
  • Communicate information to next shift technicians as necessary
  • Participate in ISO or food safety audits as needed


What skills and experience do I need to be successful in this role? 

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associates or Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university and or five years in a quality assurance analytical laboratory preferred
  • Must be able to perform basic algebraic math skills
  • Demonstrate skills in manual titration
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must be able to work night shift.
  • Ability to safely exit out of the plant in the event of an emergency.

Compensation at ICL: If you are hired at ICL, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience. We also offer a generous benefits package (more information on benefits listed below).


Hourly Rate: $24.04 - $26.44


Annual Bonus Target: 3%, subject to plan provisions.
