Job description

Lab Tech III – QA Production

The Lab Technician III – QA Production supports quality assurance and production activities within the Newborn Screening and Molecular Biology Branch. This role focuses on ensuring that laboratory production processes meet established quality standards, regulatory requirements, and operational timelines.

The position plays a key role in maintaining consistency, accuracy, and compliance across the preparation, handling, storage, and distribution of laboratory materials in a high-volume production environment.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Lab Tech III – QA Production:  $75,000.00-78,000.00/yr/

Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided.  Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

Lab Tech III – QA Production Responsibilities Include: 

  • Support daily production activities related to preparation, handling, and processing of laboratory biological, including dried blood spot (DBS) production

  • Perform quality assurance checks on materials, processes, and outputs to ensure adherence to established standards

  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation, including batch records, logs, and tracking systems

  • Assist with inventory management, including tracking, labeling, storage, and reconciliation of materials

  • Support the packaging, storage, distribution, and shipment preparation of laboratory products, including production and quality assurance of dried blood spot (DBS) materials.

  • Monitor and report quality issues, inconsistencies, or deviations, and support corrective actions as needed

  • Ensure compliance with CDC, HHS, ISO, and BSL-2 laboratory safety standards, including the consistent use of appropriate PPE and maintenance of a safe, controlled, and distraction-free laboratory environment.

  • Assist with workflow coordination to support timely production and delivery of materials

  • Participate in process improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and quality

  • Collaborate with laboratory staff, quality management personnel, and leadership to support operational needs

Lab Tech III – QA Production Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Public Health, or related field) 

  • 5+ years of experience supporting laboratory operations, production environments, or quality assurance activities 

  • Experience working in a regulated or compliance-driven environment (e.g., ISO, CLIA, FDA, or similar) 

  • Strong understanding of laboratory processes, documentation practices, and quality standards 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume environment 

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Strong communication and analytical skills 

  • Ability to work independently and resolve problems without constant supervision

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting laboratory production or manufacturing environments (e.g., reagents, biological materials, clinical lab support) 
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and audit readiness 
  • Experience with inventory, logistics, or supply chain coordination in a laboratory setting 
  • Exposure to newborn screening, public health laboratories, or biological sample handling 
  • Experience using data tracking tools or laboratory information systems (LIMS)

Work Environment

  • Primarily onsite at CDC laboratory facilities in Atlanta, GA 
  • Work performed in a laboratory and production environment, requiring adherence to safety protocols and PPE 
  • May involve standing for extended periods, handling laboratory materials, and supporting physical production processes
