Responsibilities

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Under the direction of laboratory management, is responsible for leading all aspects of operation in assigned section/team/department, including preparation and maintenance of records, reports, policies and procedures; analysis of testing methodologies, employee training/staffing, technical oversight, and compliance. Works in collaboration with team members to ensure that tasks, priorities, goals and achievements are coordinated with management. Assist with test validations, regulatory compliance, quality control/assurance, and maintenance within assigned area. Perform a variety of laboratory tests and procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing, monitoring, treating and preventing disease.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:High School diploma or equivalent required plus a sufficient number of college and/or technical school courses and clinical training to satisfy the requirements for testing and certification as a medical technologist by an approved certifying agency.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Bachelor's Degree in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or in a life / biological science (biology, biochemistry, microbiology, etc.) preferred

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:Three (3) years of hospital experience required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:Certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalysts) according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations. AAB provisional certification not accepted.
