Job description

Encode INC is seeking a travel Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) for a travel job in Augusta, Maine.

Job Description & Requirements

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in departments such as:
    • Clinical Chemistry
    • Hematology
    • Coagulation
    • Microbiology
    • Immunology/Serology
    • Blood Bank (Immunohematology)
    • Urinalysis
    • Molecular Diagnostics (where applicable).
  • Conduct all phases of laboratory testing:
    • Pre-analytical (specimen collection, identification, processing)
    • Analytical (performing tests)
    • Post-analytical (verification, interpretation, and reporting of results).
  • Evaluate specimens for acceptability and troubleshoot specimen-related issues before testing.
  • Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and instrumentation to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform and document quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), proficiency testing, and corrective actions in accordance with laboratory policies and regulatory standards.
  • Recognize abnormal or critical test results, investigate discrepancies, and promptly communicate critical values to the appropriate healthcare providers.
  • Follow all applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, including:
    • Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)
    • College of American Pathologists (CAP)
    • Veterans Health Administration (VHA) policies
    • Laboratory safety and infection control standards.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation, instrument maintenance logs, and patient testing records.
  • Assist with validation of new methods, implementation of new instruments, and development or revision of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to laboratory staff, students, and new employees as assigned.
  • Collaborate with pathologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support timely diagnosis and optimal patient care for Veterans.
  • Participate in laboratory quality improvement initiatives, competency assessments, and continuous process improvement activities.
