NATURE AND SCOPE

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Programs, the Laboratory technician assist teaching personnel in the preparation, presentation, supervision and evaluation of laboratory work, while collaborating with other laboratory technicians to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the laboratories.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares, delivers and demonstrates labs and pre-lab introductions
  • Sets up in-class demonstrations of equipment when required
  • Prepares and sets up lab exams in conjunction with teachers
  • Incorporates new equipment and experiments
  • Ensures the maintenance of lab equipment and the cleanliness and organization of labs
  • Directs the students and answers questions during and outside labs periods
  • Carries out standard safety procedures and monitors safety in the lab during experiments
  • Keeps inventory list up to date, updates stock accordingly and organizes storage of lab equipment
  • Supervises student lab assistants when necessary
  • Ensures compliance with all regulations related to WHIMS, labelling and storage of products used in the laboratories and maintains the continuous update of the safety data sheets required
  • Fulfills other duties as required



PROFESSIONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Ability to interact and work effectively with various groups, including students and other College employees
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of efficiency; diligent with rules and procedures


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation recognized as equivalent
  • Experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in a post-secondary institution
  • A valid first aid certificate or ability to take the required course
  • Strong communication skills in English and French, written and speaking
