This is a full-time, in-lab position within a fast-paced, production-driven, and highly regulated environment.This role is responsible for microbiological testing, sample preparation, quality control, inventory management, cannabis tracking, and accurate documentation in accordance with Maryland cannabis regulations and ISO/IEC 17025 quality standards.The ideal candidate demonstrates strong laboratory practices, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accuracy, compliance, and efficiency while supporting critical laboratory operations.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform microbiological testing of cannabis and cannabis products utilizing traditional culture techniques and qPCR methodologiesConduct testing for Total Aerobic Microbial Count (TAMC), Total Yeast and Mold Count (TYMC), Bile-Tolerant Gram-Negative Bacteria (BTGN), E. coli, and SalmonellaPrepare samples independently using aseptic techniques and maintain sample integrity throughout testingPrepare and document reagents, media, solutions, and testing materials as requiredEnsure compliance with Maryland cannabis regulations, ISO/IEC 17025 standards, and internal SOPsMaintain accurate records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)Perform routine equipment cleaning, maintenance, performance checks, and basic troubleshootingMaintain chain-of-custody and accurate cannabis tracking, including destruction documentationUtilize LIMS and Microsoft Office applications for documentation, workflow management, and reportingAssist with method verification, validation, proficiency testing, and quality assurance initiativesMaintain inventory of laboratory supplies, consumables, reagents, and mediaSupport sample intake, accessioning, and laboratory workflow activitiesPerform laboratory cleaning and sanitation activities in accordance with laboratory standardsParticipate in ongoing training and competency assessmentsSupport continuous improvement initiatives and process efficienciesPerform additional duties as assigned by laboratory managementRequired QualificationsMust be 21 years of age or olderValid driver's licenseAbility to meet Maryland state cannabis employment requirementsHigh school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 2 years of relevant laboratory experience; OR1 year of laboratory experience plus successful completion of a laboratory skills assessmentStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to follow SOPs and work within a regulated laboratory environmentProficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and laboratory information management systems (LIMS)Ability to work independently and as part of a teamPreferred QualificationsAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, or related scientific fieldExperience with microbiological testing methodologiesExperience with aseptic technique and culture-based microbiologyExperience with qPCR workflows and instrumentationExperience in cannabis, pharmaceutical, environmental, food safety, or clinical laboratoriesFamiliarity with ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems and accreditation requirementsExperience using LIMS platformsWork EnvironmentFast-paced, production-driven laboratory environmentContinuous video surveillance in accordance with state cannabis regulationsRequired use of PPE (lab coat, gloves, eye protection, and other safety equipment)Exposure to chemicals, biological materials, fumes, airborne particles, and laboratory equipmentModerate to loud noise levelsFrequent interruptions and changing priorities throughout the workdayPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, sit, and move throughout the workdayFrequent use of hands for laboratory work and data entryAbility to lift and/or move up to 40 lbsStrong visual acuity, including close vision and color differentiationAbility to maintain concentration and consistently produce accurate workBenefitsHealth InsuranceDental InsuranceVision InsurancePaid Time Off
