Job Summary
The Lab Assistant Trainee is an on-site position located at the Lemont Refinery. Performs analysis of petrochemical feed-stocks, intermediates, and finished products in a production facility laboratory. Collects, distributes and disposes of samples. Records test results in designated locations. Records tracking information and samples and stores the samples in designated locations. Maintains a safe and clean work environment. Maintains laboratory records. Exhibits competency in all relevant laboratory test methods.
Starting pay is $36.67/hour

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High School Degree required.
  2. Chemical or petroleum refining experience preferred
  3. Valid driver's license and ability to drive a truck
  4. Selected individuals must be able to climb, work outdoors, wear respirator equipment and work a rotating shift schedule in a 24-hour operation
  5. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  6. Basic knowledge of computers
  7. Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) Eligibility
      • TWIC Eligibility Requirements: The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and Transportation Security Administration. All candidates must be eligible to receive a TWIC in order to be considered for an offer.
      • To obtain more information on the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), and to check eligibility requirements, please visit the Transportation Security Administration's website.

Job Duties
1. Drive throughout the refinery and pickup samples from designated areas at designated times. Drop off supplies for the operating units for lab samples.
2. Perform analysis on product samples including flash point, color analysis, pour and cloud point, and several others.
3. Properly and safely dispose of unused samples from all areas of the lab.
4. Communicate with appropriate Management, Shift Foremen, Technicians, and Chemists including proper notification of unusual or empty samples, special requests that should be discontinued, spare parts stock supply levels, out of compliance SQC (statistical quality control) charts, and recommend solutions to improve analysis quality and time.
5. Ability to work with little or no supervision most of the time.
6. Ensure proper housekeeping, maintain a clean and orderly work area, and assist in maintenance and cleanliness of the refinery laboratory.
