The Quality Control Lab Technician is responsible for inspecting production materials, preparing samples, and performing both routine and special laboratory tests to ensure compliance with ASTM and Caltrans standards for ready mix and aggregate materials. This position involves troubleshooting and maintaining accurate, timely records, as well as inspecting and testing materials to support Quality Control functions at 7/11 Materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Comply with ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, and Caltrans specifications for sampling and testing construction materials
  • Organize a concrete break schedule and plant testing equipment recertification process to comply with Caltrans and ACI
  • Communicate with plant personnel to maintain proper Batch plant moisture readings for aggregate used in concrete loads
  • Communicate with customers to address quality/performance issues of concrete and aggregate products at job sites or plants
  • Communicate with upper management and outside companies or agencies to report material testing data
  • Maintain working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications to input, evaluate, and report testing material data
  • Maintain working knowledge of Command and Stonemont to help the QC Manager with item code information changes/mix design changes
  • Train rock plant managers, rock plant personnel, and affected ready mix personnel on ACI sampling and testing procedures
  • Supervise mixer drivers on jobsites to ensure they provide a quality product/service and comply with local/project regulations
  • Participate in pre-pour meetings with customers and related staff to organize concrete deliveries and divulge mix/plant info
  • Maintain proper inventory of lab chemicals and tools to supply the main lab and all rock plant testing facilities
  • Apply creative thinking to improve processes and support product development initiatives within operations
  • Travel to intrastate plants to sample and deliver aggregate or cement to local agencies for compliance testing, perform concrete trial batches, and conduct concrete field testing for local projects.
  • Maintain necessary certifications
  • Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

  • Experience in testing construction materials and/or plant inspection is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven leadership qualities.
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects utilizing organizational skills and communication skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility regarding timely and accurate completion of work and a strong commitment to corporate goals.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a fast-paced and demanding working environment.
  • Ability to travel to different company locations and work sites as needed
  • Previous experience in quality control within the construction industry is preferred
  • A minimum of five years in the aggregate/ready-mix industry is preferred
  • Certifications related to quality control and construction material testing are advantageous.
  • Continuous professional development to stay updated with industry standards and practices is expected.
