We are currently looking for a Full-Time Lab Assistant
Starting at $39,000 - $40,000 - contingent upon experience, education, etc.
Position Summary: As a Lab Technician, you will be responsible for collecting and preparing specimens for routine laboratory testing. This includes data entry, communication with staff and clients, managing lab inventory, and ensuring all protocols and safety standards are followed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operates automated chemical analyzer (spectrophotometer) to detect the presence of drugs or alcohol
  • Run daily standards and controls, calibrate equipment, and perform preventative maintenance to ensure testing accuracy
  • Monitors instrument performance and proactively notifies supervisor or specialized vendors of necessary technical service or repair
  • Maintain inventory of reagents and supplies for analyzer
  • Prepares solutions and reagents for routine operation of analyzer
  • Distribute laboratory reports to case managers and partner organizations
  • Communicate with caseworkers, clients and support staff regarding test results/reports
  • Validate and record testing data within the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Observing or performing the collection of urine or oral fluid samples
  • Follow department safety policies and procedures, especially universal precautions
  • Participate in required training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Our Ideal candidate:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination
  • One year of laboratory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of standard lab practices and safety protocols
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based applications
  • Availability to attend meetings and support lab operations at various sites as needed
