Specialty Float Veterinary Assistant (Internal Medicine & Surgery) 1st Pet Veterinary Centers Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday | 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM with alternating Wednesday with Friday
About the Role: 1st Pet Veterinary Centers is looking for a motivated and adaptable Specialty Float Veterinary Assistant to support both our Internal Medicine and Surgery teams. This is a dynamic role ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their day, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is passionate about delivering high-quality patient care.
As a float assistant, you'll play a key role in supporting workflow, assisting with procedures, and ensuring both departments run smoothly. Your ability to shift between teams and anticipate needs will make a direct impact on patient care and team success.
Requirements
What You'll Do:
  • Support veterinarians and technicians with patient care across Internal Medicine and Surgery
  • Prepare patients for exams, diagnostics, and surgical procedures
  • Assist with safe and effective animal handling and restraint (fear-free techniques encouraged)
  • Assist with anesthesia preparation and patient recovery under supervision
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments following hospital protocols
  • Turn over (flip) surgical suites efficiently between procedures to maintain workflow and readiness
  • Maintain clean, organized treatment and procedure areas
  • Stock and prepare supplies to support daily operations
  • Assist with diagnostics (lab work, imaging support, sample collection as directed)
  • Help manage patient flow between departments to maximize efficiency
  • Step in where needed to support the team during high-volume periods
