Job description

Education / Experience

  • HS diploma or bachelor’s degree in science
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working as a lab technician in laboratory settings
  • Experience with laboratory equipment

Summary Statement

The Laboratory Technician will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide laboratory support across several tasks, primarily related to ordering, maintenance, and qualification of laboratory equipment. The Laboratory Technician will report to the Laboratory Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and validation of the equipment and REES monitoring system for the GOL laboratory and cleanrooms.
  • Responsible for supporting critical equipment by collaborating with outside contractors to deliver essential equipment support services.
  • Perform service and maintenance on GOL lab equipment.
  • Manage equipment inventory and perform routine maintenance to ensure all equipment remains in good working order. This includes, but is not limited to, incubators, BSCs, centrifuges, LN2-freezers/cryo-freezers, Sepax, Prodigy, CRF, and the Rees monitoring system.
  • Collaborate with REES personnel as needed.
  • Onboard new equipment and write related SOPs.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks.
  • Collaborate closely with the manager and QA department on equipment validation and qualification reports.
  • Responsible for equipment inspections and repair scheduling
  • Among other duties, the lab technician will provide support to manufacturing, cell processing, and R&D as needed.
  • Demonstrate a general understanding and willingness to learn about laboratory operations
  • Adhere to all quality and safety standards (SOPs), policies, and protocols in the lab, as well as perform duties to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with laboratory staff to complete daily tasks efficiently and support the team's projects
  • Perform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Knowledge of equipment utilized in the cell therapy field
  • Knowledge of SOP writing
  • Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes, working hours, and procedures. Ability to perform under high-stress situations with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work in laboratory settings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate in person and via telephone
  • Must be detail-oriented and a self-starter
  • Entry-level computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and the Internet
  • Top Skills: cleaning medical and scientific facilities and ordering medical supplies.

Physical Demands

This position is basically sedentary with some walking, standing, stooping and lifting required. Occasional lifting of objects weighing in excess of 20 pounds. Travel may also be required.
