Job description

Role Summary

Our client, a manufacturer of commercial refrigeration and food equipment systems, is seeking a hands-on Lab Engineer to support testing and validation activities for refrigeration products. This is an individual contributor role focused on executing and supporting lab-based testing initiatives across multiple engineering functions including R&D, new product development, controls, quality, and field service.

The role emphasizes applying engineering fundamentals and the scientific method to testing, data analysis, and problem-solving within a laboratory environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate test projects, including timelines and stakeholder alignment
  • Develop formal test plans, including Design of Experiments (DOE), work instructions, and safety procedures
  • Design and build test equipment and data acquisition systems
  • Develop and implement data acquisition programs
  • Create and interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), electrical schematics, and structural drawings
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support lab testing across multiple product lines (e.g., refrigeration systems, display cases, and related equipment)
  • Collect, manage, analyze, and report test data to ensure accuracy and validity
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to equipment, software, and network systems
  • Support ongoing test operations and provide feedback to engineering teams
  • Contribute to new product development and technology innovation efforts
  • Guide lab technicians on maintenance, calibration, and upgrades of lab equipment
  • Ensure lab safety compliance and coordinate inspections
  • Assist in lab utilization planning and continuous improvement of lab processes
  • Participate in cross-functional coordination to maintain efficient lab operations

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 1–5 years of experience working with refrigeration, HVAC, or related systems
  • Experience working in a lab or testing environment
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and programming

Preferred QualificationsTechnical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar CAD software
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer
  • Familiarity with:
    • Electrical wiring diagrams and control systems
    • Refrigeration systems and controllers
    • Piping diagrams and instrumentation
