About the Opportunity
Kalamazoo Valley is seeking a full-time Lab Manager in our Energy & Technical Career Training Program. This role coordinates equipment inspections and maintains records of results as well as testing of training equipment including towers, ModTruss structures, fall protection systems, electrical tools and instructional apparatus; overseeing routine maintenance as needed. The position also supports wind instructors by preparing materials and administering student assessments as instructional backfill.
Specific Responsibilities of this Position
  • Manages assigned lab spaces, including material planning, inventory management, purchasing, installation, maintenance and safety compliance with applicable State and Federal regulations.
  • Provides instructional support for related academic areas and programs, may include academy instruction, corporate training and community programming.
  • Assists in budget planning and program evaluations.
  • Conducts routine walkthroughs of assigned areas to ensure cleanliness, functionality, upkeep, organization and safety.
  • Recommends and purchases new equipment and consumables used by related programs.
  • Ensures all equipment is in acceptable, safe condition and ready to use.
  • Update and maintain equipment and services within our Quality Management System.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Appropriate education, training, experience and talents are required. An example of this would be an associate degree in a related field and four (4) years of experience supporting students. Certifications specific to the program may be required upon hire.
Knowledge, skills and abilities in the following are also required:
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of functions, operations and maintenance of equipment being used.
  • Skill in managing records files and inventory.
  • Skill in working with tools and equipment commonly found within general industry.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to quickly learn new technical systems and applications.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
Physical Demands:
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend hours are possible.
