The Role

The Electric Drive Lab (EDL) is a lab team that supports development and environmental validation tests for primarily electrification propulsion electronics with recent opportunities in centralized computing modules. The team is responsible for the development and delivery of test equipment, software, and hands on execution of product development testing.

The EDL is seeking a Lab Software Integration Engineer to lead lab-software operations to test and develop centralized computing modules and power electronics. A successful candidate will work in a team of 2-3 engineers to develop and maintain the lab's test software, equipment drivers, and other computing needs. This sub team aids the Test Engineering team to develop test scripts for new products to evaluate performance, quality, and resolve field issues. This role requires interacting with Test System Engineers, Computer Aided Test Systems, and IT teams to ensure lab software and computers can support execution of testing.

What You'll Do
Works within a software team of 2-3 engineers to support lab-software operations
Release and management of lab equipment driver software
Develops and implements standards for the software team including software architecture, coding best-practices, change management, issue tracking, documentation, and verification
AI implementation
Develops equipment and component communications such as automotive ethernet, LIN, CAN, RS232, GPIB
Collaborates and trains Test Systems Engineering team to quickly build and verify test scripts. Resolves software issues with Test Engineers to aid execution of tests.
Manages software and driver installs on lab computers.
Manages IT related requests for lab computers and keep computers within compliance of GM IT
Maintains lab's test data and documents servers
Represents the team as a liaison to the computer aided test group to manage our software applications such as National Instruments and Atlassian products/GIT

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related educational field

2+ years of software development experience

Experience with software development
Experience with revision control such as Git, SVN
Familiar with electrical circuits and hardware interfaces with data acquisition systems and test equipment
Familiar with automotive communication and tools for CAN/CANFD, LIN, SENT, and Automotive Ethernet
Experience with lab equipment for electrical and environmental testing and their communication protocols such as RS232/485, GPIB
Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause skills for electronics and test systems
Able to maintain multiple projects and respond quickly and decisively to test and development issues
Outstanding interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external teams

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related educational field

5+ years of software development experience in a test laboratory setting

Experience in software programming especially LabVIEW, Python
Experience with automotive communication protocol and tools such as Vehicle Spy, Lauterbach
Familiarity with automated testing and data acquisition systems such as National Instruments
Familiarity with SDV controllers or Electrification technology such as power electronics and motors
Experience in a high voltage, electrical laboratory
Experience in automotive development and validation testing, Test lab experience, electrical development, thermal, GMW3172, EMC
Experience in software tools from Atlassian: Bitbucket, Confluence, JIRA
