Job description

Job Responsibilities

  • Analytical Testing Production:
    • Ensures turn-around-times are not exceeded and establishes sample/testing priorities in the department.
    • Performs analytical analyses on samples of varying matrices.
    • Verifies accuracy and completeness of in-progress paperwork and analytical data.
    • Ensures adherence to applicable ASTM, IEC/Cigre, and in-house developed Test Methods.
    • Enters test data and generates analytical reports as is needed.
    • Provides a safe and clean working environment in respective department and general lab areas.
    • Adheres to and promotes safety policies throughout respective department and general lab areas.
    • Maintains generated waste in appropriate containers and within time guidelines.
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • Installs, calibrates, repairs, and maintains department equipment as required
    • Provides technical and trouble-shooting support for testing and equipment maintenance.
  • Laboratory Technician:
    • Maintains glassware by proper handling, including, appropriate washing, drying, storing, usage and inspection.
    • Working knowledge of gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and fluid analysis as required.
    • Understands principles of chemical analysis, analytical and physical chemistry.
    • Receives incoming samples and properly inputs customer, sample and HV equipment information into laboratory database.
    • Assists the Lab Manager with sample preparations, materials handling, and traceability.
    • Runs chemical tests on lab equipment as instructed by the General Manager.
    • Performs other lab functions as directed by the General Manager.
  • Overseeing daily operations and ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and in accordance with company standards, in conjunction with the General Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma/GED and Technical Diploma in a related field. A university degree and/or experience in a related field are assets
  • Able to meet deadlines and simultaneously work on multiple projects as required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to problem solve. Attention to detail.
  • Strong computer and organizational skills.
  • Attention to internal and external customers’ needs.
  • Knowledge and experience working within an ISO17025:2017 accredited QMS is an asset.
