Job Overview:

Pay Range: $12.75hr - $17.75hr

Requirement/Must Have:

  • Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
  • Minimum of 6 months’ work experience performing venipunctures in a fast paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
  • Perform decontamination and update patient information.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly and courteously to patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
  • Fully understand all physician orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport.
  • Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place in appropriate collection containers.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
  • Assist in troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
