Job description

Cytology Department Coordinator

The person in this position coordinates all clerical functions of the Cytology department and serves as the primary contact for clients and other PathGroup departments and facilities, regarding issues related to Cytology specimens and reports.

Essential Functions:

  • Serves as primary contact between the Cytology department and clients, other PathGroup departments, pathologists, and outside facilities.
  • Investigates and resolves problems re: Cytology specimens and reports.
  • Monitors Cytology pending lists and open requisitions.
  • Accessions DNA cases.
  • Coordinates submission of and reporting of DNA cases.
  • Manages and sends weekly and monthly client reports.
  • Calls reports to physicians' offices
  • Assigns slides to cytotechnologists and pathologists.
  • Assists cytotechnologists and pathologists with problem cases.
  • Handles cytology send out testing and requests for slides.
  • Maintains cytology department statistics and statistical reports.
  • Assists with training of new employees.
  • Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
  • Must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.

Education & Licensure:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Postsecondary education preferred.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of one year of prior healthcare environment job-related experience is required.
  • Three or more years of prior healthcare environment job-related experience is preferred.
