The Clinical Biorepository Associate I works under the direction of the lab supervisor and is responsible for supporting the needs of clinical investigators at Fred Hutch as users of the Clinical Research Specimen Processing (CRSP) Shared Resource. The Clinical Biorepository Associate will support scientific research by handling sealed clinical research specimens in accordance with standard operating procedures while maintaining strict chain of custody. The Clinical Biorepository Associate will maintain electronic inventory records, accession and ship specimens, support management of specimen data (including data entry), and support Quality Assurance.

Responsibilities
  • Specimen Inventory Support: Includes accessioning specimens into inventory, organization of specimens within the inventory, and preparation of specimen shipments to central labs and collaborators.
  • Electronic Inventory Records: Maintain eInventory of clinical research specimens. Digitize legacy records for import into eInventory.
  • Data Entry: Support individual studies in required data entry associated with processed specimens.
  • Quality Assurance and Administrative Support: Work with the Quality Assurance team to capture and report specimen processing metrics. Research and prepare reports for user queries.
  • Laboratory Support: Contribute to smooth operation of the laboratory through routine operations such as freezer maintenance, and management of supplies and waste.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Level of autonomy:
    • A Biorepository Associate I will communicate day-to-day lab needs to the supervisor or senior staff. This position has no responsibility for supervision of others except if work-study students, interns or lab aides. There is high oversight and training from the resource director and senior staff and partial interfacing with resource users.
  • Financial responsibility:
    • This role does not have direct financial responsibility but will assist in billing and review of charge codes as required.  
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related field.  
  • Work Experience can be substituted for education: Independent research experience in addition to school lab experience is usually necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated capacity for accurate record keeping and organized management of detailed information.
  • Strong skills in written and face-to-face communication.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  • Experience with MS Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, One Drive, etc);
  • Experience working in a relational database.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $27.01 to $38.45 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
