Location: Primarily Main Campus, but any location assigned by the appropriate administrator
Job Purpose
Provide instructional support to faculty in lab sessions for EMR, EMT, and Paramedic classes based on Kansas certification level. Multiple positions.
 

Position Description
  • Provide technical guidance in the performance of specific educational tasks in EMR, EMT and/or Paramedic courses.
  • Set up and tear down practical skill, scenario stations.
  • Observe and document student performance of tasks assigned by the instructor(s), (i.e., patient assessment, fracture management, running scenarios and simulations).
  • Ensure safety practices are followed by students.
  • Follow required safety procedures in handling of needles and waste products.
  • Monitor student use of college-owned simulation mannequins and equipment used by students. Report when equipment is malfunctioning and needing repair/replacement.
  • Enforce all rules and regulations of the program, college, and other enforcement agencies that govern student practices of KCKCC students and staff.
  • May consult with program faculty, staff, and students on scenario development or revision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the respective supervisor or director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Anatomy/Physiology and pathophysiology related to the appropriate certification level.
  • Knowledge of EMS operations and EMS medical/legal issues for their certification level.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing patients experiencing medical and trauma emergencies.
  • Ability to utilize various EMS equipment and procedures in managing patients experiencing medical and trauma emergencies.
  • Ability to multi-task to meet multiple demands.
  • Ability to interact with the public and other staff.

Position Qualifications and/or Education
 

Minimum Qualifications and/or Education
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certification by the Kansas Board of EMS as an EMT or Paramedic.
  • At least one (1)  year experience providing emergency medical care in the field setting.
Preferred Qualifications and/or Education
  • Associate degree or higher.
  • National Registry Certification as an EMT or Paramedic.
  • Three years or more experience providing emergency medical care in the field setting.
  • Prior experience as an instructor or instructional assistant.

  1. Regularly required to talk to students or hear responses from students or faculty.
  2. Regularly required to use close vision to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
  3. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers to manage or feel objects such as tools, keyboards, mannequins, etc., and reach with hands and arms to push or pull equipment.
  4. Regularly required to lift 100 pounds such as emergency bag, equipment mannequins, or books.
  5. Occasionally required to bend, stoop, twist, reach, or climb more than the average person.

Work Schedule
Part-time, maximum of 29 hours per week with an average of 10 hours per week. Lab instructors must work a minimum of 45 hours per semester to continue employment.
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. Must be able to workday and evening classes and an occasional weekend day to participate in BEMS BLS Certification Exams.
