Job description

OVERVIEW
JOB TITLE: General Chemistry Lab Assistant
LOCATION: St. Paul Campus
PAY RATE: $16.50/Hr
JOB SUMMARY:
The student employees will attend all laboratory sessions, weekly lab meetings, and assist the Lab Instructor with running the labs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Prepare for lab in advance by reading the full procedure and learning how to use all software and equipment
  • Ensure all safety policies and procedures are properly followed in the laboratory
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste
  • Answer student questions and assist in their completion of laboratory procedures
  • Help instructor clean-up and reset laboratory space at the end of the lab session

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Successful candidates will be in at least their second year at St. Thomas
  • Successful completion of CHEM 111 and CHEM 112 or CHEM 115
  • Employees accepting an offer for this position must complete all training provided by the department for fulfillment of duties and functions before the first lab session
    • Additional direction around specific procedures for Chemistry Labs may be provided by a supervisor
