Emplify Health by Gundersen is looking to add a fulltime Histology Assistant to our lab team. This is a great opportunity to learn and grow in your lab career.

What You'll Do:

As a Histology Assistant you will perform routine histology procedures including accessioning, fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, and cover slipping. You will assist the physician or PA during the bone marrow procedures, make and stain the slides, and prepare the slides for examination by the physician. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples. Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting. Resolve specimen identification and/or requisition problems and clarifies request.

  • Cuts quality tissue sections with proper thickness as determined by tissue type and places properly on glass slides.

  • Embeds tissue into paraffin blocks.

  • Maintains a filing system for paraffin tissue blocks, slides and wet tissue.

  • Assists with bone marrow procedure, makes and stain the slides and prepares the slides for examination by the physician.

  • Files and store tissue blocks and slides.

  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning equipment.

What's Available:

  • Fulltime - 80 hours biweekly (1.0 FTE)

  • 8hr day shifts starting at 0700, 0730, or 0800. No weekends, holidays or night call

  • Starting pay of $19.86 per hour and up, based on your years of experience

What You'll Need:

  • Associate degree in a related field or High School Diploma + 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both)

  • 1 year of prior experience in a histology lab is highly desired

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory procedures, specimen processing, and analysis

  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues
