Job description

Responsible for the efficient handling of laboratory specimen receipt in a timely manner: Correctly identify the patient specimens while receiving blood/non-blood specimens in Lab computer system and charting of patient reports while practicing good customer service skills. Provide coverage of front desk area which includes: receipt of specimens by pneumatic tube, clerical functions associated with specimen receipt, answer phones, and provide information to nurses, doctors, etc. as required. Log in patient requests from outside facilities or offices; Preparation of send out specimens for reference laboratory following outlined protocol; Charting of lab reports maybe required. Manages information in Lab computer system. Receives and process all laboratory test specimens (blood and non-blood). Performs steps required to complete specimen receipt plus general lab and reference sample processing. Trains new staff in each area for which competency is maintained. Performs any other assigned duties which may include charting of cumulative reports.

High School Diploma or equivalent. Work requires knowledge of phlebotomy preferred, customer interaction, and public relations skills and to handle age specific needs.
