Job description

Under the clinical direction of the Physician Lab Director, the Medical Technologist, and the Director of Nursing Services the Laboratory Assistant obtains and processes specimens. The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for documenting all activities, monitoring supplies, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and lab testing.

Reports to:

Direct/Administrative: Clinic Administrator or designee

Technical /Clinical: Physician Lab Director / Medical Technologist / Director of Nursing Services


Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate.

2. Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health Services, Laboratory Field Services Branch.

3. Two years as a Certified Phlebotomist Technician (CPT I) is desired.


Laboratory Assistant II must meet the following additional requirements:


1. Must maintain a current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR Policy.

2. Should possess the ability to effectively attend to patients of various age groups, including infants, adults, and individuals with disabilities.

3. Fluency in English (speaks, read and write).

4. Fluency in Spanish (speaks, translate, read and write).

5. Ability to solve problems and make routine recommendations.

6. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality about health care and other patient/client information.

7. Demonstrate skills in the performance of specimen receiving, centrifuging, labeling, logging, sorting and racking.

8. Must maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

9. Displays proficiency with the electronic health record database within three months of attending training session(s).

10. Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage and a driving record acceptable to the NEVHC’s insurance carrier (if required to drive on the job).
