Job description

Overview
Florida Woman Care Laboratory is currently seeking a Specimen Processor - Accessioning to work with cytology, histology, molecular, clinical, and microbiology specimens. Experience in in medical terminology and data entry is preferable. Processors will perform various support activities for laboratory technical staff including specimen receipt and triage, ordering and stocking of materials, cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining laboratory workspace.
Please note, the hours for this position are: Tuesday - Saturday; 10:00 AM - 6:30 PM
Responsibilities
  • Receive and process specimens consistent with specimen requirements for testing including positive patient identification, appropriate specimen collection container and specimen transport requirements.
  • Identify and accurately label specimens and distribute them to the appropriate testing area.
  • Perform clerical and administrative duties.
  • Organize and monitor lab supplies for appropriate inventory levels as directed by laboratory leadership.
  • Communicate specimen non-conformities to technical staff and/or laboratory leadership.
  • Clean and maintain work area and all lab equipment and supplies.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens.
  • Comply with chemical hygiene and/or laboratory safety procedures.
  • Comply with all lab procedures, processes, and methodologies.
  • Assists all technical laboratory staff and leadership with additional duties as needed.

Qualifications
  • High school degree or equivalent; strong data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred
  • 2 years' experience as a lab assistant, specimen processor, or relevant experience in a lab is preferred
