Job description

A full-time Laboratory Assistant position is available to work in the lab of Dr. Andrew Gillis in the Bay Paul Center for Comparative Molecular Biology and Evolution at the MBL.

The lab assistant will assist with research on a NSF-funded research project on the development of the lateral line system of cartilaginous fishes.

Responsibilities of the lab assistant will include tissue preparation (dissection, fixation and embedding), histology, and microscopy (light and fluorescence microscopy), as well as animal husbandry.

This is a one-year position with an expected start date of 1 September 2026.

Basic Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma and some college
  • Experience with basic wet lab techniques, including histology and microscopy.
  • Experience in the lab with careful handling of animals is essential.

Physical Requirements:

Minimal exposure to hazardous chemicals. Occasional lifting of heavy objects (<30 pounds).
