Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Perioperative Assistant, you will assist the nursing team in ensuring the Cath Lab's readiness at the start of the day and consistently throughout each procedure.
Every day you will safely transport and transfer cardiac patients, always prioritizing their courtesy, dignity, and confidentiality, while also actively supporting the clinical team in preparing and turning over procedure rooms.
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate a full understanding and active participation in fulfilling our mission, consistently exhibiting behaviors consistent with our Core Values. Your crucial support in maintaining a safe, efficient, and patient-centered environment within the Cath Lab will be paramount to successful cardiac interventions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patient Satisfaction: Is a role model for the Hospital's Patient Satisfaction effort, i.e. demonstrates AIDET principles when interacting with customers, subordinates and colleagues.
  • Periop. Assistant will meet with circulator and/or scrub person for specialized equipment needs and setups at start of day and before start of each case. Anticipates future needs having knowledge of equipment, function and location: Conscientiously anticipates equipment needs of the rooms. Case setups are consistently kept available. Takes initiative to check with nurses for further needs and/or changes in the schedule to assist and facilitate in the readiness of room.
  • Checks and replaces sharp containers: Keep containers changed so overfilling with sharps does not occur. Adequately seals and properly disposes of same.
  • Stocking of supplies is maintained throughout the department: Supply Closet; Scrub Sinks; Supply carts in hallways; Warmers; Rooms; Supplies are available in sufficient quantities; Anticipates needs of department; Communicates shortages to appropriate personnel.
  • Contaminated linen and trash are handled using protective barriers, including gloves, protective eyewear, protective gowns or aprons and masks: Gown & gloves are removed (inside out) and placed into trash container before leaving the room; * All blood, body fluids and tissue specimens are placed in plastic bags prior to transport or in containers that are impervious: All grossly contaminated and wet items should be double bagged for proper disposal per institutional policy; Blood and body fluid spills will be decontaminated and wiped up as soon as possible.
