Job Summary

San Anselmo Animal Hospital (SAAH) is searching for an experienced veterinary technician or RVT who is passionate about veterinary care and is looking to work at a privately owned animal hospital. SAAH continues the decades long goal of keeping our community pets healthy by using the best equipment, computer based cloud software, and offering advanced surgery and dentistry procedures. Our hospital has recently moved to a newly renovated property in the western section of Central San Rafael and near the 101 Freeway. We are very close to specialty and emergency hospitals; which we interact with daily. Mobile surgeons, radiologists, cardiologists and internists frequent our hospital, so you will learn a lot!

As an RVT you will provide advanced medical care to animals under veterinarian supervision, performing anesthesia, dentistry, surgical assistance, collecting blood for lab analysis, radiology, and client education. Ensure high-quality patient care, maintain, sterilize, and operate medical equipment.

Qualifications

Previous experience as a Veterinary Technician, preferably two years of experience

Must be registered, licensed

Knowledge of animal care and handling

Excellent communication skills

Ability to multi-task and remain organized in a busy environment

Proficiency in animal handling, pharmacology, and medical terminology

Ability to lift, bend, and stand for long periods.

Patience and a love for animals

Be able to work one Saturday per month

Full-time and part-time available

Responsibilities

Triage pets and interview pet owners to obtain a patient history

Restrain animals and the ability to work with difficult or fearful patients

Acquire samples from patients, collecting blood for lab analysis.

Manage patients from start to finish for all procedures and surgeriesing

Assist with surgeries, monitor anesthesia and provide pre/post-operative care

Collect laboratory samples (blood, urine, feces) and perform in-house tests.

Maintain sterile equipment, and manage inventory.

Administer medications on patients

Provide client education regarding treatments, procedures, and medications

Keep accurate patient records

Provide advanced medical care to animals under veterinarian supervision, performing anesthesia, dentistry, surgical assistance.

Perform radiographs (x-rays)

Client education

Ensure high-quality patient care, maintain, sterilize, and operate medical equipment.

Responsible for technician appointments which include trimming nails, expressing anal glands, cleaning ears, administering vaccines and doctor approved injections.

Create and manage discharge instructions for post surgical procedures

Calculate approved mediations and drugs for patients

Have or obtain your drug license

Dentistry

From start to finish, you are responsible for intubating and extubating the patient and monitoring their needs during and post procedures

Perform thorough dental cleanings, which involve scaling to remove plaque and tartar, as well as polishing to smooth the tooth surface. Additionally, RVTs assist with dental radiography

Extracting a damaged tooth or treating periodontal disease, RVTs ensure surgeries run smoothly by closely monitoring and maintaining the patient’s vital signs, such as heart rate and oxygen levels, throughout the procedure.
