Laboratories in the Basic Sciences Division using the Drosophila model organism are recruiting a part-time Lab Aide I for the fly media kitchen. The Aide will coordinate with a full time employee to work a regular two day a week schedule with some flexibility to shift days if needed.
5 hour shift (~5pm-10pm) every Tuesday and Wednesday.
This is an in-person position at our South Lake Union Campus.
Responsibilities
  • Preparation for cooks, including but not limited to: preparing ingredients, stocking and ordering supplies, autoclaving foam plugs and other reagents
  • Help aliquot fly media and plug food once it has set
  • Cleaning bottles and preparing them for glassware
  • Serving as back-up cook when full time person is away (weighing out ingredients, cooking food, ordering supplies)
  • General cleanliness and maintenance of fly kitchen and fly wash facilities.
  • Care and maintenance of fly stocks
  • General lab maintenance, including preparation of lab reagents and stock solutions

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent; OR,
  • High school senior with lab-based experience or demonstrated interest in the sciences.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduation from High School or equivalent with interest in the sciences.
  • Some lab experience and/or college level chemistry courses.
  • Abilty to lift trays weighing 20-30 pounds.
  • Reliable and able to produce consistent results.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $21.30 to $30.13 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.
