About This Position:
This position is responsible for maintaining and performing basic repairs on a variety of mobile and small equipment within the Section 42 Unit 071 Mechanic Shop, under the supervision of the Mechanic Supervisor B. The incumbent is expected to be self-motivated, work independently with minimal supervision, and adapt to unforeseen conditions as they arise. The incumbent will also participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all required continuing education classes and conferences necessary to effectively perform assigned duties.
While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Diagnoses and repairs electrical, computer, electronic, brake, fuel injection, axle, and heating systems, applying knowledge of how these and related non-mechanical systems impact overall mechanical operations.
  • Locates defects and determines causes of malfunctions using a wide range of test equipment, including engine analyzers, dynamometers, exhaust analyzers, vacuum testers, timing lights, tachometers, ammeters, ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, and computerized scanners.
  • Determines the nature and extent of necessary repairs, selects appropriate work procedures, and gathers relevant technical manuals in both print and electronic formats to complete the job.
  • Responsible for the complete overhaul of systems and assemblies on automobiles, trucks, buses, and light, heavy, mobile, and small stationary equipment.
  • Works on gas and diesel engines, as well as electrical, air conditioning, computer, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, steering, and other mechanical systems.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a as Mechanic 1, 2, or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Compensation: Below is the starting bi-weekly rate for each level.
  • Mechanic 1-$1,374.40/ bi-weekly
  • Mechanic 2-$1,573.60/ bi-weekly
  • Mechanic 3 -$1,684.00/ bi-weekly
